Prom night

Prepare yourself for picture overload....Tuesday night was Isaac's prom.  Because he goes to a small school there are only 55 students in his graduation class and there is this weird tradition where each graduate is escorted into the school gymnasium by a parent (Moms with sons, fathers with daughters), everyone parades around the gym in front of the whole community then there is a parent/graduate dance...then the graduate's prom date arrives for a waltz, then they leave the gymnasium and go to the cafeteria which is decorated by the grade 11 students as a surprise for the graduates.  The prom takes place there with a deejay and food.  I know this all sounds very 1950's...but it is kind of quaint...ish.

Isaac at home before the prom

I made him pose for a picture with me....if you thought it was difficult to find a dress for prom when you were 17...try finding one when you are the 44 year old mother...yikes.  There is a fine line between granny....and cougar...and of course I have banned sleeveless from my life.

Isaac and his girlfriend Elizabeth

And a few friends....

Scott is so lucky he is the father of sons...he got to watch it all from the sidelines...

During the odd parade around the gymnasium...awkward.

Parent/graduate dance....

Now we just have the graduation ceremony tonight then we officially have two graduated sons...no more homework, lunches, catching the schoolbus.....not sure how I feel about this but onward and upward I guess.

Non-stop Party

Last weekend we hosted a graduation party for Isaac...with only his aunts, uncles, cousins and a few of his friends suddenly there were 70 people on the guest list.

I love this picture of our sons with their girlfriends..hmmm they both seem to have a thing for brown-eyed girls...

Isaac's girlfriend Elizabeth helped me make this homemade version of the "edible bouquet"....now I know why these things are so expensive to buy...

The house was full...we had so much fun catching up with everyone

Of course there was cake...

And we finished the path...just in time for the party...only a month after we started it...typical for us...

Then on Father's day we went to a party for my great-nephew Christian who was baptized on Sunday...he loves his fedora.

25 years

Today Scott and I are celebrating 25 years of marriage.  I know everyone says this but I really can't believe how fast time goes by.  I was only 19 when we got married and Scott was 22 which seems so crazy now that we have a son who is 21.  In so many ways now I think today teenagers and twenty-somethings are smarter and more sophisticated than we were at their age, but in other ways they seem so much less independent when we were....deep thoughts.  At any rate even though we were young I can say today that I would marry this guy again in a heartbeat...and I really hope we have at least another 25 together.  One upside of marrying and having kids young is that we will have an empty nest this fall when Isaac goes off to university and although I am nostalgic about the good times when our sons were young I'm looking forward to the next chapter in our lives.

Even though we said our gift to each other was a quick trip to Quebec City this weekend this morning Scott gave me this silver locket that he had made by a metal artist who attended Art and Design school with me.

It is really beautiful, antiqued silver since silver is the gift for 25th anniversary.  I asked him what I should put inside the locket and he jokingly suggested a lock of his hair...sadly that ship has sailed...if you know what I mean.
